A Spirit Airlines jetliner, destined for Port-au-Prince in Haiti, was struck by gunfire and forced to divert to the Dominican Republic, according to an announcement by the airline on Monday.

The aircraft had departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was rerouted to Santiago. An inspection revealed damage to the aircraft consistent with gunfire, the airline reported. The incident resulted in one flight attendant being “slightly injured.”
Injury to Crew Member
Spirit Airlines confirmed the injury of a flight attendant, as reported by Reuters. According to the Miami Herald, the flight attendant was “grazed” by a bullet. Thankfully, no passengers were reported injured.

In the aftermath of the incident, all flights to and from Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture airport have been suspended, as reported by the Miami Herald.
