Ukraine to Develop New Air Defenses in Response to Russia’s Missile Deployment
Ukraine is set to develop new air defenses to counteract “new risks” following the deployment of a new medium-range missile by Russia, according to Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski. This move comes as a response to Russia’s utilization of the OreČ™nik missile.
International Reaction Needed
During a speech, Zelenski emphasized the need for a “serious response” from the global community to Russia’s missile deployment. He expressed his belief that this would deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from expanding the conflict and force him to face the real repercussions of his actions.
Zelenski also highlighted the fact that using another nation to “test new weapons for terror” is a blatant international crime. He stressed the need for the world to understand the truth and recognize that Russia is the only side that is not seeking peace, hence its need for escalations.
Securing New Defense Systems
In light of Russia’s recent aggressive actions, Zelenski has instructed the defense minister to engage in discussions with Ukraine’s allies to procure air defense systems capable of protecting lives from these new threats. He stated, “On my instructions, Ukraine’s defense minister is already holding meetings with our partners on new air defense systems – the kind of systems that can protect lives from new risks.”
Cooperation with American Partners
Reports from Interfax-Ukraine suggest that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are collaborating with their American counterparts to procure a THAAD ballistic missile defense system or upgrade the existing Patriot system. This further solidifies Ukraine’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities in the face of growing threats.
Russia’s Actions Condemned
Zelenski reiterated his condemnation of Russia’s practices, particularly its use of other nations to test its new weaponry. He declared this practice as an unmistakable international crime, emphasizing the need for global awareness and action against such activities.
