Russia Intensifies Attacks on Ukraine with Hypersonic Missiles
In a significant escalation of aggression, Russia has launched a substantial attack on Ukraine, employing Kinjal cruise and hypersonic missiles. This attack marks the most substantial Russian offensive in the last three months. The assault has caused numerous explosions in Kiev and other Ukrainian cities, prompting Poland to mobilize its fighter jets.
Ukraine’s Power Systems Under Threat
According to Ukrainian Energy Minister Gherman Galushchenko, the country’s power system is facing a severe threat. Ukrainian officials have responded by cutting off electricity supplies in some regions, including Kiev, as a protective measure. This move is a direct response to the significant increase in attacks from Russia.
Poland Responds to Increased Russian Aggression
As a response to the increased attacks by the Russian Federation using cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones against facilities located in western Ukraine, Polish and allied aircraft have been activated in Polish airspace. The Central Command in Poland stated that all available resources and forces have been activated, with service fighter jets being mobilized from the ground. The ground-based air defense and reconnaissance radar systems have also been elevated to the highest state of readiness.
Explosions and Air Raid Alerts Across Ukraine
Several explosions have been reported in various Ukrainian cities, including Zaporizhia and the Black Sea port of Odessa. The Ukrainian air force has issued red raid alerts, advising residents to seek shelter. The scale of the attack remains unclear. However, reports indicate a number of missiles, including various types of cruise missiles, are currently traversing Ukrainian airspace.
Drone Strike on Kiev
The missile attack followed a drone strike on Kiev. Falling debris from the attack set a building on fire, injuring one person. Officials in the capital confirmed the incident via Telegram. This situation has placed Ukraine on high alert for several weeks, anticipating a possible rocket attack as winter approaches. Previous attacks have targeted the electricity grid, causing major outages across the country.
