Prince William and Princess Kate’s Early Years: A Story of Love and Challenges
The love story between Prince William and Princess Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, began at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. During their first year, they lived in St Salvator’s Halls of Residence and established a close friendship.
The Challenge of Living Together
In their second year at university, the couple chose to live with two other roommates. However, they faced a challenge as the landlord had previous issues with male tenants. Kate smartly intervened to secure the house for herself, William, and their two friends.
They eventually lived together in a private house off-campus in their third and fourth years. This house belonged to a wealthy landowner, Henry Cheape, who is also William’s distant cousin and friend.
A Secure Home and a Budding Romance
The couple’s home was well-protected with unmarked police cars patrolling the property. The house was additionally secured with bomb-resistant windows and doors. Despite these stringent security measures, the couple enjoyed entertaining their friends at the estate.
Moving to Adelaide Cottage
In the summer of 2022, the family moved to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor estate. The cottage, built in 1831 for Queen Adelaide, the wife of William IV, is nestled in the heart of the 655-acre private royal park Crown Estate. Queen Victoria, who frequently took breakfast there, also favored this home.
The Cottage underwent major renovations in 2015 and showcased some very elaborate decor. Here, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were enrolled at Lambrook School. This move marked another significant milestone in Prince William and Princess Kate’s journey together.
