A Glimpse into Rolls Royce’s Electric Future
With a history spanning over a century, the Spectre marks Rolls Royce’s first foray into the world of electric vehicles. Boasting an impressive range of over 500 kilometers and nearly 600 horsepower, the Spectre stands as one of the brand’s most aerodynamic models. Interestingly, one of the co-founders of Rolls Royce reportedly bought an electric vehicle around the turn of the 20th century and speculated about the potential future of electric cars.
The Founding of Rolls Royce
Rolls Royce, a British company renowned for its luxury cars, has been in operation for more than 100 years. The founders, Charles Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce, collaborated to start producing cars in 1904. Royce, an electrical engineering enthusiast, created his own car in 1903 after having to constantly repair a French Decauville car he bought. His creation was highly functional and reasonably priced at £395.
Charles Rolls, on the other hand, came from a wealthy noble family and developed a passion for cars while studying at Cambridge. He opened a company, CS Rolls & Co, that sold cars and eventually became the largest British car dealer. His dream of manufacturing cars was realized when he met Frederick Henry Royce in 1904, leading to the establishment of the now globally recognized Rolls-Royce company.
The combination of Royce’s technical excellence in car design and Rolls’ strong sales skills and established dealer network paved the way for the success story of Rolls-Royce.
