Boris Johnson Kicked Off Channel 4’s US Election Program
Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was dismissed from Channel 4’s coverage of the US presidential election after excessively promoting his recent memoir, “Unleashed”, according to POLITICO. Despite being instructed by the hosts to refrain from mentioning his book, Johnson continued to do so.
“Now, here in the studio, we have a new panel discussion – Boris Johnson has been sacked for talking too much about his book,” said co-host Krishnan Guru-Murthy during the show. The nature of Johnson’s departure, whether planned or unplanned, is still under discussion.
Conflict on Live TV
Within the show’s initial minutes, Johnson presented his memoir and was promptly told by Guru-Murthy to “put it away” and was labelled as “so cheap”. Johnson, however, continued to display his book, claiming, “There is absolutely nothing you can do to stop me. I’m allowed to show my book.”
Co-host Emily Maitlis challenged Johnson to address his potential return to politics instead of promoting his book, stating, “Not all of us will read your book, so tell us if you want to get back into politics…You can’t answer any questions.”
Johnson’s Reaction
Despite the criticism, Johnson maintained that he had answered all the questions and was “happily engaged in promoting my book Unleashed, which is available in all good bookshops”.
Johnson’s Connection with Trump
As prime minister, Johnson had allied himself with Donald Trump, and met with him at least twice after leaving Downing Street to discuss the war in Ukraine. He also admitted to speaking with Trump “quite recently”. However, Johnson denied any accusations of modeling his political style after Trump, calling them “utter nonsense”.
