Moscow’s View on the Upcoming US Presidential Election
Despite initial enthusiasm for Donald Trump’s 2016 victory, Moscow’s view on the upcoming US presidential election is less optimistic. Neither of the potential future presidents appear likely to meet all of Moscow’s desires, according to reports from Politico.
Trump: A President Who Doesn’t Always Keep His Word
Trump has been admired by Putin and the Kremlin for his admiration of Putin and his stance on Ukraine. Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, also aligns with Moscow’s views through his criticism of further aid to Ukraine.
However, Trump’s tendency to not fulfill his promises, such as mending relations with Russia and lifting Western sanctions after the annexation of Crimea, is a concern for the Kremlin. There are doubts that even the most Kremlin-friendly president will remove Washington’s hostility.
Kamala Harris: A Potential Aid to Putin’s Agenda
Putin has expressed support for Kamala Harris, hinting that she could help maintain a status quo that Moscow sees as beneficial. Harris could potentially provide justification for Putin’s ongoing war against what he describes as “American hegemony.”
Moreover, Putin’s remarks on Harris could be part of a traditional KGB cover-up operation designed to benefit Trump. However, it could also indicate that Trump’s promise to end the war in Ukraine quickly may not align with Putin’s intentions, as he has made war the focus of his legacy.
Russian Interference in the Election
Despite Russia’s official stance, it’s worth noting that American information and technology experts have accused Russia of continuing to spread fake videos and disinformation aimed at influencing the election campaign.
